Biography

Wisconsin-born mezzo soprano Kitt Reuter-Foss made her Metropolitan Opera debut as the Second Lady in The Magic Flute under the baton of Maestro James Levine. Ms. Reuter-Foss returned to the Met for La Traviata, Falstaff, Le Nozze di Figaro, the world premiere of The Ghosts of Versailles, and the house debuts of Rusulka and Death in Venice.

Ms. Reuter-Foss has sung with many opera companies throughout the United States including Atlanta, Cleveland, Boston, Portland, Milwaukee, Chicago, Salt Lake City, Madison, and many others. Ms. Reuter-Foss made her international operatic debut with the New Japan Philharmonic under the direction of Seiji Ozawa (The Magic Flute).

Ms. Reuter-Foss' operatic repertoire includes the roles of Carmen, La Cenerentola, Rosina, Isabella, Despina, Dorabella, Nicklausse, Cherubino, Hansel, Stephano, Suzuki, Maddelena, and many others. Her symphonic engagements have taken Ms. Reuter-Foss throughout the United States including performances with orchestras in New York, Milwaukee, and many others. Her repertoire includes Verdi Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Israel in Egypt, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Mahler's 2nd Symphony, Mozart's Requiem and Mass in Cminor, Bach's Magnificat and Mass in Bminor.

Ms. Reuter-Foss was a Metropolitan Opera National Auditions Winner in 1990, and has been the recipient of many other national vocal awards including the National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist Award. Ms. Reuter-Foss was the recipient of the first annual Alumni Achievement Award given by the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music for her accomplishments in vocal performance. Ms. Reuter-Foss holds two degrees in vocal performance from the University of Wisconsin.

Equally at home performing jazz and musical theatre. Kitt has shared the stage with jazz greats, Bobby McFerrin, Ben Sidran, and Richard Davis to name a few. She sang the lead role of Mrs Anna in Rogers and Hammerstein's "The King and I" and regularly includes brodaway and american standard repertoire on her recitals. She was a studio singer recording with rap artist Bow Wow and her voice can be heard on many commercial and studio recordings.

As a coach/clinician, Ms. Reuter-Foss' love for teaching has taken her to universities and conservatories throughout the U.S. Kitt has performed as guest artist and led master classes in Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, New York, Illinois, Nebraska, Colorado, and Iowa and Kansas. As a private voice teacher for more than 25 years, Kitt has trained many young singers to become college voice majors and music lovers for life. Her connections with both her students and their families continues long after they move on to new stages of life.
